Pest Control
Pest Control is an ongoing process A regular program of follow-ups are essential to maintain a prprty free of insect, rodents etc. Homes in SE Queensland and NE NSW should be treated at least once a year, and preferably twice annually. Commercial/Industrial premises require much more frequent followup.
There is now a tendency to using low hazard, low odour control agents – usually pyrethroids. These materials are biodegradable and favoured for use around those who have allergies. The downside is that followup treatments now need to be more frequent.
Pests that are most frequently treated in SE Queensland and NSW are:
Cockroaches
The most common species are American Cockroaches and German Cockroaches.
Spiders
The most common types of spiders are Webbing spiders and Poisonous spiders (Mostly Red-Back Spiders).
Ants
Most common species is Coastal Brown Ants.
Ant control may involve the use of sprays, dusts and baits. In recent times excellent results have been obtained with the latest baits.
Silverfish
Silverfish are a pest of paper items and some fabrics. They are nocturnal and infrequently seen - mainly inhabiting cupboards, and various cavity areas.
Excellent control results can be obtained using dusts and ULV misting of cavities.
Bees
Bees frequently lodge in wall cavities, or settle as swarm on or near buildings.
Treatment includes removal/elimination of the colony, removal where possible of wax/honey and blocking-off to prevent re-entry by other bees.
Rodents
Most common species are Black Rats, Norway Rats and House Mice.
All three species are pests of buildings. Control routines includes a survey to determine entry points and food sources etc. Excluding from entering if possible, and baiting/trapping. Regular monthly/quarterly follow-ups are essential - particularly with commercial and industrial buildings.
